Don’t look for suspects look for partners…

Are you struggling trying to do network marketing online.  One of the challenges I have seen and experienced in network marketing online over the years is seeing people myself included, sponsor 10, 15, 20 people this month and then those people either leave within 30 days or they do absolutely nothing.  Why is that?

I believe one of the reasons is people are often sold or “closed” into the business.  I call these people suspects.  In my mind a suspect is a person who joins your business for all the wrong reasons and it is not their fault it was how they were recruited into the business.  For example I see all types of ridiculous things to “close” people into joining their business.. like

…”We’ll build your downline for you or get in now and I will place everyone else beneath you because you’re at the top…”

These are the wrong reasons to join a business.  People that come this way are suspects.  Remember if you have to sell people to join your network marketing business you will have to sell them to do everything else in your business.    In fact I don’t “close” anyone into my business.  I look for partners .  Here is the difference.  The partner is joining because they see the opportunity not because I sold them.  They have an ownership mindset in their business and understand it takes effort to make it work.    These are the people I look for, because these will make your business grow.

I like to approach people like this is a business and they are intelligent business people.  Give them  the pros and cons and allow them to make an intelligent decision.  After all if they join for their reasons they will perform better.   It doesn’t guarantee they will be successful but you won’t have to spend your time trying to get them to take any type of action.

Hey I thought this was a very good point. One that I need to remember more when I’m out there doin the deal.
It is easy to let my excitement get the best of me and “sell”
people, but like you said that tends to come back and bite me

AMEN! Sometimes we are so quick to go for a “signup” that we don’t take the time to really qualify them and make sure they are a true partner with the ownership mentality you talk about.

Another way I’ve heard it is to “recruit up”, looking for the best quality prospects you can find, even those with more business skills than yourself.

What a great article. Any one who has been a network marketer for any length of time has “sold a kit” in order to meet a quota or qualify for a contest, then the new associate disappears. Searching for the people who are also searching for a business and training them properly is the only sensible and professional way to build your business.

How many times you see this where people drag people over the finish line. They are not truly business partners…they do not have that fire that is so necessary in this business.

Long ago my grandmother told me that there are two things you cannot do..push a string and put toothpaste back in a tube..and it is the same with business..you are right, the person has to have a ownership mindset and understand that it is their business and work is required to be successful.

This is great advice for anyone who is involved in network marketing online. I agree that it’s a complete waste of time to bring someone in your business who doesn’t really want to be there. In the end, they’ll do nothing for you or themselves. Having a partner is a much better option and will produce better results.
